27th Annual Charity Golf Day – Friday 28th August 2026

Zenith Contract Services Ltd was delighted to host its 27th Annual Charity Golf Day on Friday 28th August at Nuneaton Golf Club.

For 27 years, the Zenith Charity Golf Day has provided a fantastic opportunity to bring together customers, suppliers, friends and business associates for a day of golf, good company and, most importantly, fundraising for some very deserving charities.

This year was certainly one to remember – although perhaps not entirely for the reasons we had planned!

A Great Day for a Great Cause

This year’s Captain’s Charities were Doorway and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone involved, we were delighted to raise an impressive £3,468. The fundraising is, of course, what the day is really all about.

While the golf provides the excuse to get everyone together, it is the support, generosity and enthusiasm of our players, guests and sponsors that makes the event such a success year after year.

When the Weather Had Other Ideas…

There was, however, one small problem with this year’s event – the weather. For the first time in the 27-year history of the Zenith Charity Golf Day, the event had to be abandoned due to thunder and lightning.

We have always tried to make the Zenith Golf Day challenging, but we hadn’t quite planned on adding lightning strikes to the list of hazards! With the skies becoming increasingly lively, the sensible decision was made to bring proceedings to an early conclusion. Safety had to come first, even if it did mean that many teams barely managed to complete nine holes. And, as nobody particularly fancied pub-golf, the decision was probably for the best!

Despite the early finish, spirits remained high, with everyone making the most of the clubhouse, good food and good company. Naturally, there were also plenty of conversations about what might have happened if the players had been allowed to finish – although the weather can conveniently take the blame for a few questionable scorecards!

And the Winners Were…

Despite the abbreviated round, we still managed to crown our winners.

The Zenith Golf Day Shield was won by the Maintenance & Mishaps Team, comprising: Craig Lakey, Steve Vile, Garry Adams and Keith Finch.

Taking Runner-Up honours were NGC Team 2, consisting of: Colin Bridley, Steve Jones, Paul Cooper and Darren Cerio.

In Third Place were The Bogey Barristers: Michelle Adams, Nick Green, Paul Moorcroft and Richard Adams.

So, congratulations to all three teams – particularly considering some of them had considerably less than 18 holes in which to demonstrate their golfing brilliance!

Individual Honours

There was also plenty to celebrate in the individual competition.

Joint 3rd Place – Steve Jones and Andy Blair

The Nearest the Pin competitions were won by:

Men – Martyn Howard
Ladies – Irene Hancox – again!

Irene’s continued dominance of the ladies’ nearest-the-pin competition is becoming something of a tradition. At this point, the rest of the field may need to start considering whether a handicap system is required!

The Good Egg Award

Every year, there is always someone who deserves special recognition for their contribution to the day, and this year’s Good Egg Award went to none other than Zenith’s own Dave Cope.

It was Dave’s first ever Zenith Golf Day, he was new to golf, and to make matters even more impressive, he only stepped in at the last minute as a replacement. We’re not entirely sure whether Dave knew what he had let himself in for, but he embraced the challenge and got stuck in – which made him a very worthy recipient of the Good Egg prize.

Hopefully, after his first experience of golf involved torrential weather, an abandoned competition and lightning, he’ll still be willing to come back next year!

A Few Famous Faces

We were particularly pleased to welcome some familiar and famous faces to this year’s event.

Among our guests were former Aston Villa and England player Peter Withe, former footballer Andy Blair, David Wilton, and local footballing celebrity Kirk Stephens.

Their presence added to what was already a fantastic gathering and helped make the day even more memorable.

We were also delighted to welcome players and guests who travelled from far and wide to support the event (some making the journey from Austrailia!) . Their continued support is a huge part of what has allowed the Zenith Charity Golf Day to become such an established fixture in the calendar.

The Most Important Part of the Day

While there may have been some disappointment at not completing the full round of golf, the real measure of the day’s success is the money raised for charity. Thanks to everyone who played and contributed to the fundraising and supported the event, we were able to raise £3,468 for Doorway and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. That is what the Zenith Charity Golf Day is ultimately about. The golf gets us onto the course, but the generosity of everyone involved is what makes the event worthwhile.

Over 27 years, the day has helped raise significant sums for a wide range of deserving causes, and we are incredibly proud of that achievement.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who attended, supported, donated and helped organise this year’s event. You are what make the day such a success despite the rather dramatic intervention from Mother Nature.

We may not have managed 18 holes this year, but we certainly managed plenty of laughs, some excellent company and, most importantly, another fantastic fundraising total.

Bring on the 28th!

After 27 years, we’ve experienced good golf, questionable golf, great weather, questionable weather and some truly imaginative explanations for missed putts.

But this year we achieved something completely new: We didn’t finish the golf!

We’re hoping that 2027 brings us sunshine, dry fairways and considerably less lightning.

One thing is certain – whatever the weather brings, the Zenith Charity Golf Day will continue to be about good friends, good company, plenty of laughs and raising money for great causes. Thank you to everyone who helped make our 27th Annual Charity Golf Day such a memorable occasion.
