Cost-Effective Garden Fencing Renewal for Local Housing Association
Restoring the appearance, privacy and security of the rear garden boundary.
Local Housing Association
Renewal of Rear Garden Fencing
Approximately 5m of fencing
The Challenge
Zenith was instructed by a local housing association to address approximately five metres of damaged fencing along the left-hand boundary of a resident’s rear garden.
Although the existing featheredge boards had deteriorated and required replacement, an initial assessment found that the supporting fence posts and horizontal arris rails remained in a serviceable condition.
Rather than removing and replacing the complete fencing system, Zenith was able to take a more considered approach, retaining the components that remained fit for purpose while renewing the damaged sections.
This provided an opportunity to reduce unnecessary material use and disposal while still delivering the secure and presentable boundary required by the housing association and resident.
Making the Most of the Existing Fencing
The damaged featheredge boards were carefully removed from the existing structure without unnecessarily disturbing the posts and rails that were being retained.
Once the old boards had been removed, the existing posts and horizontal arris rails were checked before new featheredge boards were installed across the affected five-metre section.
The new boards were carefully positioned and securely fixed to create a consistent finish while making full use of the existing supporting structure.
By approaching the work as a targeted repair rather than automatically replacing the entire fence, Zenith was able to minimise the amount of new material required and reduce unnecessary waste from the project.
The Result
The completed works restored the appearance, privacy and security of the rear garden boundary, providing the resident with a neat and functional fence once again.
For the housing association, retaining the serviceable posts and arris rails provided a practical and cost-effective solution while also demonstrating how existing materials can be reused where their condition allows.
The project is a good example of how responsive fencing repairs can be tailored to the actual condition of the boundary, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to replacement.
